UI/UX DESIGNER / WORDPRESS DEVELOPER – REMOTE

We are seeking a UI/UX Designer and WordPress Developer to support the creation of user-centric, visually engaging digital experiences that are seamlessly integrated within the organization’s web ecosystem. This is a 6–12 month remote contract position working standard CST business hours.  Candidates located in the Greater Chicago area are preferred.

The successful candidate will work closely with MarCom and OIT teams to ensure design consistency, accessibility, and technical integration across the College System’s websites. Responsibilities include translating Figma designs into responsive WordPress templates, building reusable front-end components, and supporting integration with APIs and enterprise systems. 

This role requires a unique blend of UI/UX design expertise, front-end development skills, and experience in web integration.

Portfolio Required: Candidates must provide a portfolio link showcasing relevant design/UI work.

What You’ll Do:
Design & Prototyping
•    Collaborate with stakeholders to translate business and user needs into intuitive UX/UI solutions.
•    Develop high-fidelity wireframes, prototypes, and mockups in Figma that align with the College system’s branding and user experience goals.
•    Build and maintain a Figma component library to ensure design consistency across colleges and digital platforms.
•    Apply accessibility (WCAG, ADA) best practices to all design work.
 
Front-End Implementation
•    Convert Figma designs into responsive, scalable WordPress templates and UI components.
•    Develop modular, reusable front-end components that integrate with the College System’s CMS and content publishing strategy.
•    Utilize CSS frameworks (Bootstrap, Tailwind CSS) and UI libraries to streamline front-end development.
•    Optimize web interfaces for performance, cross-browser compatibility, and mobile responsiveness.
•    Work within WordPress’s templating system, ensuring design fidelity and functional flexibility

What You’ll Bring:
•    Bachelor’s degree in Graphic Design, Digital Media, UX/UI Design, Web Design, or related field (or equivalent experience/certifications)
•    10+ years of experience in UI/UX design and front-end development, preferably in higher education or complex web ecosystems
•    Expert-level proficiency in Figma, including component libraries, design systems, and prototyping
•    Strong knowledge of HTML, CSS, and JavaScript
•    Experience with CSS frameworks such as Bootstrap and Tailwind CSS
•    Familiarity with WordPress templating and content management workflows
•    Basic understanding of PHP for WordPress customization is a plus
•    Knowledge of WCAG and ADA accessibility standards
•    Experience with Git or other version control systems
•    Higher education experience preferred
